Recorded live by us at Blue Cat rehearsal rooms in Manchester, mixed and mastered by Cleft in Dan's bedroom.

"Taking from where bands like Adebisi Shank and Battles might have left off, Cleft are a band full of thoughtful, ‘right-here, right-now’, alternative instrumental-rock concepts. Not shying away for too long in introductions, preludes and postludes, sparse middle sections or endings, their straight-to-the-point rawness and directive narrative in head-crushing composition and performance is the perfect format for any new band." - Andy Crowder, Musical Mathematics

"Whale Bone is a varied and energetic listen that offers a short but sweet glimpse of what Cleft can do. The passion behind the music on this EP gives me the impression these songs would be awesome to hear live." - Brendan Hesse, Beard Rock

"This is not your ordinary ram and jam rock duo." - Plenty of Swords

"Cleft build sounds that would make androids climax, then drop them off into a trench where Cthulhu is already getting a brew on." - Quenched Music

"..sheer rock, throwing one out there, with Cleft telling us ‘we’re here, we’re going to make you listen to us, and you’re going to like it’. Cleft, no words." - Cat Keller

"What’s left after you take away cape-wearing synth wizards and laser shows, you ask? Plenty of what we love about Prog: Time changes, level changes, fast starts and stops, virtuoso instrument handling. Combine all that with the DIY ethic and speed of Hardcore, and the many effect pedals of the shoegaze set, and you have the fresh and original ‘Whale Bone’ EP. It’s like a sandwich without the crust, where the crust is bullshit and filler." - Jake Gillen, Echoes & Dust
